" As someone from a non-technical background, I was desperate to find a way to have more control over the content inside my product. Last year, we decided to adapt Editmode as an early customer. It looked like a risky decision at that point, but Editmode has created tremendous value for us since we integrated. The product has definitely surpassed my expectations"

Using the Editmode Content Hub

Housebuild was created and driven by founders from non-technical backgrounds. Even if “business minds” are the best suited candidates to establish a particular company, their lack of technical savvy can prevent them from achieving the business its full potential. The most critical and frustrating factor is often the inability to easily alter the text on their communication channels. Housebuild's team went through a phase of friction between the business and tech teams. Every single content change or update had to be communicated to the PM, who then reached out to the developers to update it — and we haven’t even started on the iterations. The problems were endless: loss of context of change within the chain of communication, multiple text change requests that disturbed the developer workflow, hesitance of the non-technical team to communicate a change based on how tedious the process was, the list goes on. Most teams aren’t even aware that a solution for this tiring process exists. When Housebuild first heard about Editmode in April 2020, they were immediately interested in integrating it within their codebase.

For the Housebuild team, Editmode's unified Content Hub served as a single source of truth for their vast array of copy. The simple interface was accessible and clear to developers and non-technical team members alike. The Content Hub enabled developers to create text identifier “chunks” for each piece of copy, whereas everyone else on the team could easily track their content and update it as necessary. Organizing content became even easier with Editmode’s in-built content keys and tags, allowing relevant pieces of content to be grouped together. The Content Hub also served as a way to track changes and retrieve lost pieces by opening the “Activity Logs”. The Logs showed who made what changes when, increasing transparency of the process. Housebuild also wanted to create new content for the next version of their site, with all the new changes going live in one go. The branching feature in the Editmode Content Hub allowed them to create a separate branch to store all the changed content for their upcoming update, without disturbing their current live version.

Transactional Emails

Whenever Housebuild needs to trigger a transactional email, a new email template is created inside the Editmode Content Hub. A simple one- liner can be used in the rails codebase to trigger the email delivery.

This is the code snippet Housebuild uses to trigger their transactional emails with a single click.

Powering Tooltips and Help Articles

Housebuild uses a multi-step login with instructions provided at every step. Given the wide audience they serve as a marketplace for costly tools and services, they also need to add tips and help articles at multiple places across their website and webapp. These informational elements are easy to lose track of, as they are not discussed regularly by the team but they still serve as one of the most important aspects of the website. Editmode has made tracking all these content pieces a breeze, and edits are easily made using our Inline Editor. Housebuild is planning a multi-step onboarding guide for their customers, with the associated copy powered by Editmode.
